HBO Max Vs. HBO Go Vs. HBO Now: What's Are The Differences Between These Streaming Services?

This week, WarnerMedia’s HBO Max launched, and the latest streaming service includes tons of new content and is reasonably priced. However, that means there are three streaming services with “HBO” in the title, and that can be a little confusing for many people. So what is the difference between HBO Go, HBO Now, and HBO Max?

There are now three HBO-related platforms, all offering up something a bit different, and it can be a little bit confusing for the uninitiated. Here is a very quick rundown of the three.

  • HBO Go-A service available to cable subscribers, streaming HBO content to internet-connected devices.
  • HBO Now-The same thing as HBO Go except it’s a standalone streaming service, not attached to your cable provider.
  • HBO Max-WarnerMedia’s platform. While it does offer HBO content, it also includes original programming and content from a variety of other networks and movie studios.

HBO Max won’t launch until the end of May, but there are plenty of original shows coming on Day One. Additionally, the service will have a lot of great content on launch day, including Doom Patrol, Friends, and Studio Ghibli films.

HBO Max-How it works

HBO Max works on a similar premise to HBO Now, but it is diversified with original Max content, plus series and movies from WarnerMedia’s larger stable of content. Other big names coming to HBO Max include South Park, The Big Bang Theory, Wonder Woman, and more.

HBO’s official messaging goes to pains to avoid referring to HBO Max as a streaming service, with the website calling it a “platform offered by WarnerMedia,” where HBO Now is called “a standalone streaming service,” though it’s not clear whether there’s a functional difference between the two.

HBO Max is available on several platforms, including Xbox One, PS4, iOS, and Android. Unlike HBO Go, however, it is not available on Roku or Amazon Fire TV devices at the moment. For those with an HBO subscription through providers like Spectrum, Verizon Fios, and YouTube TV, you’ll get access at no extra cost.

HBO Now-How it works with HBO Max

HBO Now subscribers get access to MAX on launch, with both services being priced at $15 a month. Those who access their Now subscription through a third party such as Hulu, Apple, or Roku may not get this instant switch-over; however, though HBO has advised these customers to “stay tuned for more details” as partnerships are renegotiated.

Though it definitely seems like HBO Max is designed to replace HBO Now, and potentially even HBO Go, nothing has currently been announced about discontinuing or renaming the older services. With 10,000 hours of content from a number of WarnerMedia’s brands, however, it definitely seems like HBO Max is being set up as the company’s main platform.

HBO Max launched on May 27 at $15 a month. For more info, check out everything we currently know about the new streaming platform.

Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich Pile on the Quarantine PDA!

Just weeks after lockdown began, we told you that Demi Lovato is dating Max Ehrich and that they are sheltering in place together.

Now, they’re piling on the PDA on social media. Take a look at their steamy pics for yourself:

Demi and Max aren’t the only new-ish couple who went “screw it” and sheltered in place instead of sheltering alone.

As we can see from Demi’s recent Instagram Stories spree, they made the right call.

They are showing off their affections with heart emojis and big kissing lips emojis.

But also with their actual lips, which they are happily locking for all to see.

Speaking of these two hotties having a makeout sesh, they both recently shared a video of the two of them dancing.

It’s a cute moment with a gorgeous background and some serious smooching.

The only downside was that they were dancing to “Stuck With You,” though the song is admittedly appropriate for the situation.

It’s important to note that Ariana has also collaborated with good singers, but … whatever, this was definitely Scooter getting Demi to boost the song.

Obviously, these two gorgeous talents have been making the best of their time on lockdown.

You know, presumably boning. If you can’t work and you have all of your needs and most of your wants met, that’s a great way to pass the time.

They have also been acting as each other’s fashion photographers during this time.

The results are some seriously steamy thirst traps, some of which we have sampled for you here in this article.

Last month, we reported that inside sources have been saying that Max plans to propose to Demi when the pandemic is behind them.

“Max plans to propose to Demi after this whole pandemic is resolved,” the insider claimed.

“And,” the report continued, “their families wouldn’t be surprised by the proposal.”

“They think they make a great couple,” the insider explained.

They may be relatively new to each other, but the source noted that they are “getting really serious.”

“The quarantine has been really great for Demi,” the insider stated, “and her and Max have gotten so close.”

What’s more is that Demi has been excelling in terms of her personal struggles despite the horrors of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“She’s doing a great job at staying sober, healthy and taking care of herself.”

Now, Demi has presumably seen these reports about Max’s alleged intention to propose.

What she thinks of them … we can only guess, just as we cannot confirm his thoughts and plans.

Demi, who seems uncomfortable with labels but describes herself as sexually fluid, has spoken about partnering up and settling down.

She has expressed openness to the idea of raising children with another woman.

“When I imagine my life in the future,” Demi said, “I don’t say, ‘I’m looking for a man who I want to have two or three kids with.’”

“So I don’t know what my future will look like,” she admitted.

Demi added: “And I’m open to anything.”

Anything could of course mean Max Ehrich, one assumes, though they were not dating when she gave that interview.

Demi spoke more about her sexuality, but again declined to use a simple label like “bi” or “pan” while describing exactly those.

“There is no type,” she expressed.

“It is solely off connection,” Demi explained. “I wish I could say, ‘I only date attractive people.’ But I don’t.”

While that sounds exactly like any bi/pan folks you could meet, Demi has every right to not use a label if she doesn’t want to.

Remember when Max Branning star Jake Wood was in EastEnders in the 90s?

Max Branning has become something of a household name since his arrival in EastEnders back in 2006, but — in spite of portraying such an iconic character — the former car dealer wasn’t actually actor Jake Wood’s first role in the BBC soap.

It would be inaccurate to say that he first showed up in Walford over a decade earlier, as his two-episode stintbakc in 1990 didn’t actually take place in the iconic dwelling, but rather on the streets of London.

The ’90s featured many a popular storyline, and the decade in question kicked off with a hugely iconic one in Diane Butcher’s (Sophie Lawrence) disappearance.

The young girl was fed up with life — specifically with how dad Frank (Mike Reid) continued to treat her life a little girl — and therefore, on the day of her birthday, she did a runner.

After several months on the streets of London, she returned home, but not before the soap took viewers back in time — in its first ever flashback episodes — to show how the young woman survived.

During said flashback narrative — which featured in episode 536 and 537 of the soap — Diane came face-to-face with a homeless girl by the name of Disa (Jan Graveson) — who would go on to feature heavily throughout 1991 — who introduced her to several other kids on the streets, one of whom was named Jackson — portrayed by Jake.

It was 16 years later that the actor would then arrive in Albert Square as Max Branning, and as they say, the rest is history!

EastEnders continues Monday 18 May at 8pm on BBC One.
